Happy Valley is getting a new matcha cafe with breakfast additions in the near future.

Luzcal Matcha Bar is a Latina-owned cafe with a new location coming to the city next spring. Owner Samantha Morales is not wanting to reveal the address yet, but it will be close to their space inside Desmadre Spa at 12930 SE 162nd Avenue, Suite 108. She is anticipating a late May or early June opening date.

Morales started the cafe after years of experience in local coffee shops and chains including Starbucks. Her uncle was someone who loved coffee but struggled with caffeine addiction, so she began creating teas and matchas that weren’t high in caffeine. These experiences inspired her to create pop-up locations, and now a brick-and-mortar.

The spa was an addition to Desmadre Spa which opened earlier. Morales noticed people would stop in to get their sweets after, and due to this success she thought a storefront would be the best option for her business.

“When we started getting clientele, it boosted us to go viral with matcha,” Morales said.

Along with the matchas, the shop will serve breakfast sandwiches and pastries. Their signature drink is Frankie’s Special, which is a double matcha named after her uncle. She said the menu will serve “everything clean with preservatives.”

Construction on the business will start in February, and depending on the speed of progress it will open in May or June. For more information on Luzcal Matcha Bar, visit their Instagram @luzcalpdx.
