A company specializing in farming matcha in Oregon is bringing custom-made drinks to Portland.

Mako Matcha Mill which has been around since 2013 has recently announced their first cafe is coming to the city. The address for the cafe is listed as 414 SW 13th Avenue. Owner Edison Zeng does not yet have an opening date.

“For the first time, 100% USA-grown and stone-milled matcha. Based in Portland, Oregon,” says the description on their Instagram page.

In September, staff began harvesting the “first recorded matcha crop in the U.S. The company partners with farms in Oregon to produce the matcha and later bring it to the cafe. The plant is typically grinded and steamed to prepare as a powder for serving in drinks like teas and coffee.

From a social media post last week, the buildout is currently happening. Work on the interior is being done including the bar and cashier area. Outside, the green “Matcha” sign is already up.

The cafe was first listed as coming in the fall of this year, but now it is looking like it will be further out. The listed address is at the Heritage School of Interior Design building, next to Masu Sushi and a Vans shoe store location. It will be within walking distance of downtown.
