Mochi donut popularity is showing no signs of slowing down as a new Mikiko Mochi Donuts location is opening in the suburbs.

It was recently reported by The Oregonian that the shop will again be expanding, this time to 15320 NW Central Avenue in the Bethany community. It is being described as a “micro-bakery” that will sell products at the location. Co-owner Alex McGillivray is looking to open on Aug. 27.

One of the main reasons McGillivray and his wife Emily Mikiko Strocher decided to open a new location was the cost of maintaining their Beaverton space at 3905 SW Orbit Street. He put the space up for sale in April, and it is now limited to being open Wednesday to Sunday. When he found the Bethany location and saw the reasonable cost, he knew it would be a great opportunity that was “too good to pass up.”

The business is known for selling gluten-free and nut-free donuts, and they also offer catering. Some of their monthly special flavors include filled chocolate banana, filled peach pie and chocolate pancakes.

The original Mikiko Mochi Donuts location opened in 2022 at 300 NE 28th Avenue. As there is not a working kitchen in the new space, it allows McGillivray and his team to be able to move in quicker. The 270-square-foot space will be set up more like a retail store, with donuts being made at their other locations.

“All we have to do is paint and build furniture,” McGillivray said.

The hours of operation at the start will be 10 a.m.-5 p.m. every day. More information on the opening can be found on their Instagram page @mikikimochidonuts.
