A new Thai restaurant is coming to the Sunnyside neighborhood.
David Fiske recently submitted a liquor license application for his new business Bangkok Belly to be at 3342 SE Belmont Street. It will be going in place of the former Daily Fuel Vegan restaurant. This is his new restaurant concept he will be opening with his wife by the end of the summer.
Fiske said the restaurant will serve grilled skewers, fresh Thai salads and will have a small bar program in the space. As Fiske’s wife is from Bangkok, and he lived there nine years himself, they are bringing bold Thai flavors to this stretch of Belmont. He believes people in the area will love the concept.
“It’s got a good nightlife and diverse mix of businesses,” Fiske told What Now Portland. “I think there’s just a good energy and appreciation for Asian cuisine.”
The space will be casual and intimate. It will be situated near Sugar Hill cocktail bar, as well as Annam VL restaurant. It’s also going to be close to Stumptown Coffee Roasters. This is near the intersection of SE 34th Avenue, and there are many bars and restaurants along Belmont Street.
For the cuisine, the official menu hasn’t been released, but it will be focused on “their memories of food in Bangkok.”
There is not an official date of opening right now, but the end of the summer is what the owners are aiming towards. There will be more information on the restaurant coming out in the next couple weeks.
