A well-known Portland restaurant owner has a new Thai concept he will be opening.
Owner Chookait Saenguraiporn recently submitted a liquor license application for Guay Tiew at 330 NW 10th Avenue in the Pearl District neighborhood. This is set to be a restaurant serving mainly Thai street noodle soup. The timeline of opening right now is either Nov. 1 or Dec. 1.
Saenguraiporn has been planning this project for a long time, but once they decided on a location a year ago he knew this could become a reality. He also owns Thai Peacock at 219 SW 9th Avenue along with other restaurants in the area. Following his success with Thai Peacock, he wanted to create a new space for the community.
“I just thought it could be a hidden gem,” Saenguraiporn told What Now Portland.
The food and ingredients are inspired by what Saenguraiporn grew up having. He has always enjoyed Thai dishes, and bringing food like street noodle soup is what he dreamed about for a new restaurant. He also put an emphasis on making the dishes affordable.
The building is at the corner of NW 10th Avenue and NW Flanders Street. He describes it as “tucked away” at the corner. It is near other restaurants like Life of Riley Tavern, Nuvrei bakery and Arden Restaurant.
In the application, Guay Tiew will be open from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. every day. There will also be space for 48 people inside. No announcement has been made on social media as of now.
