Located at 801 NW Wall St in downtown Bend, Drake Restaurants served its last meal on April 12, said recent coverage by KTVZ 21.

“The popular restaurant has been a staple in the downtown dining scene for years, known for its upscale comfort food and welcoming atmosphere,” the coverage said.

Replacing it is a brand new restaurant that, according to The Source, will serve northern Mediterranean cuisine with “influences from Spain, Italy, France and Greece.”

The restaurant, called Olive & May, is named after two significant women in Bend’s History: Olive McKay, an influential force in Bend’s development (her husband Clyde McKay built the building) and May Arnold, who “led the Women’s Civic League back in 1928 and was responsible for gathering 1,500 signatures to put a $21,000 bond on the ballot to finance the city’s purchase of land along the Deschutes River for what was then called City Park, now known as Drake Park, thereby preventing it from becoming a housing development.”

Olive and May is working to open by Memorial Day weekend, owner Peter Kost told The Source.

What Now reached out to Kost on Wednesday to ask about plans for the Olive and May opening and details on the menu. Kost was not immediately available for comment.

Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available!
