The Mule Bar is set to open its doors in the Beaumont-Wilshire area located at 4915 NE Fremont Street, inside of what was previously Stanich’s, according to a recent permit filing.

A representative of The Mule Bar did not immediately return What Now Portland’s request for comment.

While an official opening date has yet to be confirmed and information is limited, the person behind The Mule Bar is Paula Hylland, whose family has owned and operated Mousetrap Tavern since the mid-1980s, according to a recent article from Bridgetown Bites.

In 1985, Paula’s father took the bold step of purchasing the Mousetrap Tavern, laying the foundation for a lifelong endeavor that would shape the lives of the entire Hylland family. As teenagers, Paula and her two brothers joined their parents in working at the tavern, immersing themselves in various roles that included weekend cleaning duties before opening. Through these experiences, they gained a genuine understanding of the realities of life, with its ups and downs, according to the company website.

In addition to Paula’s experience with the Mousetrap, G.O.A.T. Bar is also owned by her and her husband Mark. The G.O.A.T. opened fairly recently in 2021 but is described as having a long history of being a sports bar for more than two decades prior.
