A new bar looks to be going across the street from Providence Park.

A liquor license application was recently submitted for 820 SW 18th Avenue, the location of the former Cafe Nizza. The project comes from Christopher Valterza, who applied for Saunter in Pub under the company name Hospitality 303 LLC. Valterza told What Now Portland he is hoping to open around Feb. 1.

Cafe Nizza is listed as permanently closed online. The space served European dishes and wines. Valterza has not released the menu for Saunter in Pub, but it will have bar food items with slow roast options.

“It will be some slow roasts, charcuteries, shrimp cocktails and small pizza oven items,” Valterza said. He added he may include individual Detroit-style pizzas in small pans.

The restaurant will be in a strategic spot during soccer season as it is right across from the Portland Timbers’ home field. It will also be near the Providence Park light rail station, and attached to the same building as Coco Donuts Uptown. The Groom Shop PDX is right next door.

Inside, Saunter will also host private events with a party space. There are ideas to host parties for the soccer team.

A website for the business is coming soon. This project is in the early planning stages now, and this article will be updated as more information is provided.
