Sun Rice will soon have a new home on the north side of the city.
Owner Ken Tran just submitted a liquor license application for 4090 N Williams Avenue in Boise. This follows the recent closure of the XLB Chinese restaurant which occupied the space. According to a recent article from KOIN, the new restaurant is slated to open in late August.
Tran is taking on the project with chef TJ Cruz who launched Sun Rice with him in 2021. It was operating at 585 SW 10th Avenue near downtown. After the two created a grab-and-go cafe and set up at farmer’s markets, they decided it was time to settle at a permanent address.
Sun Rice has become known for its fast-casual Filipino cuisine. Some of the garlic rice bowls offered at the previous location were the chicken adobo, seared fish, and veggie. There are other meat options available, and the official menu for the new spot hasn’t been revealed.
The restaurant will be going in at the corner of N Williams Avenue and NE Mason Street, across from Jinju Patiasserie. Many of the restaurants in the Boise neighborhood are along the N Williams Avenue strip. As of now, the business is still doing pop-up events as the owners prepare for opening.
For the restaurant, there will be space for 49 to sit inside and 16 outside. It will operate every day from 10 a.m.-midnight. What Now Portland has reached out to the owner, and this article may be updated.
