The Sacramento County Health Department inspected Creole Soul Restaurant and Bar on November 6, uncovering multiple major health code violations. Inspectors reported evidence of both cockroach and rodent activity, along with improper storage of food and toxic substances.

According to the health inspection report, Creole Soul Restaurant and Bar was cited for several health code violations. Key violations included:
- Employees lacked proper knowledge of food safety practices, including thawing, cooking, reheating, and temperature control. Training is required within 7 days, the report noted.
- A sports drink with an unapproved screw-top lid was found stored next to the rice cooker.
- Inspectors found several food items held at unsafe temperatures, including mac and cheese, beans, eggs, ground beef, mashed potatoes, and ribs.
- Inspectors observed old food debris on the can opener blade and a leaking A/C unit dripping over clean equipment and plates, the report said.
- An automatic dishwasher was seen operating without a sanitizer. Although sanitizer was available, the dispenser was malfunctioning and delivering uneven levels.
- The 3-compartment sink at the bar reached only 105°F before dropping. The facility must restore a minimum temperature of 120°F for all sinks (except hand sinks) within 24 hours, the report said.
- Inspectors observed multiple signs of vermin activity throughout the facility, including rodent droppings on two soda boxes, several old rat droppings behind oil tanks, and old mouse droppings in the storage area below the staircase. More droppings were found on shelving used to hold plates, pans, and dry storage items, as well as one old rat dropping on the water heater.
- A dead adult German cockroach was also discovered near the juice boxes and lockers on the floor. The facility began cleaning and sanitizing all contaminated areas during the inspection.
- An unlabeled spray bottle with unidentified liquid was observed.

- A bucket of flour was stored directly on the floor near the oil tank. The report noted that the eatery must clean, sanitize, and store it at least 6 inches above the floor.
- Grease and old food buildup were found under and behind the cook line equipment. Standing water near the oil tank and brown water were observed by soda syrup boxes in deteriorated grout/tile.
- The rice cooker top was seen broken with exposed wires (repeat violation).
- The ice scoop was seen stored on a dusty ice machine; the lid of the ice bin at the soda machine was observed to be dirty, the report said.
- Two CO₂ cylinders were seen unsecured. The report asked the restaurant to chain or secure within 3 days and maintain at all times.
- Tongs were seen stored on oven handles.
- The shared garbage dumpster lid was found open, and the recycling bin was missing lids.
- Toilet paper was seen stored outside of the dispenser in the women’s restroom.
- Expanding foam was observed in the bar area. The eatery was asked to trim, smooth, and seal to ensure surfaces are durable and easily cleanable within 30 days.
- The floors and wall edges near the soda syrup machine and oil tank were observed to be in bad condition.
Follow-up Inspection

According to the inspection report, the eatery is expected to correct all the violations before a reinspection. Officials have advised thorough sanitization of all food prep areas, sealing entry points, and increasing pest control measures.
