The Sacramento health department conducted a routine inspection at El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant on February 2. The restaurant was found non-compliant with the food safety code and received a yellow placard following inspection.

El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant operates at 3521 Truxel Rd in Sacramento. According to the inspection report, the violations noted were as follows:

  • No hand soap was available at the handwashing sink located near the mixing station. The violations were corrected on-site.
  • Cooked corn and grilled cheese were observed in a cold-top refrigerator at temperatures above recommended limits. The manager voluntarily discarded both items and corrected on-site.
  • Pico de gallo, diced tomatoes, and shredded cheese were measured between 45°F and 48°F in the cold-top refrigerator.
  • Multiple food items, including burrito sauces and cooked meats, were found cooling on rolling carts in the kitchen. Food had been cooked for 30 minutes to three hours before inspection. The manager was directed to reheat all items to 165°F and cool using approved methods, and the issue was corrected on-site.
  • Black residue was observed inside the ice machine.
  • One fruit fly was found inside a liquor bottle at the bar. The manager voluntarily discarded the bottle.

  • Boxes of food items were kept directly on the floor of the walk-in freezer.
  • A ceramic cup was being used in the bar area, according to the inspection report. Only approved cups are allowed for use.
  • A valid health permit was not available at the facility.

According to the inspection report, the restaurant will undergo a reinspection within 24-72 hours after it was issued a yellow placard. The eatery must correct all the violations to secure a pass.
