During the health inspection, the inspectors flagged that no food safety certification was available upon request. Kesar Grill and Sweets was asked to enroll in a food safety certification course, and provide proof of enrollment and certificate to specialists via email.

The report revealed that there was no paper towel available at the handwashing station in the main prep area.

The food preparation tabletop was found unclean, with old food debris and residue. Inspectors noted that manual warewashing was done in the three-compartment sink without the use of an approved sanitizer.

A gallon container of sanitizer was observed near the sink; it was not actively used during the wash-rinse-sanitize process for dishes, utensils, or food contact surfaces. A large number of unclean utensils were seen on the floor waiting to be cleaned.

The health department reported approximately 10 dead houseflies inside the stand-up Pepsi refrigerator located in the food facility.  The person in charge said the unit was not in use for food storage. A box of carrots, a bag of bell peppers, a bag of onions, and a bag of potatoes were seen stored directly on the floor of the walk-in cooler.

Old food debris was seen inside the lowboy unit of the main prep cooler, on the floor surrounding the prep area, in the dry storage unit, and behind the stove. The three-compartment sink did not have test strips available to verify sanitizer concentration.

The report also revealed the use of small bowls in scooping flour and ingredients, and a thermometer in the facility. The inspectors noted water leaking on the floor of the prep area from a pipe connected to the walk-in cooler.

The pipe beneath the prep sink was missing a proper air gap, violating health code requirements.  Toilet paper towels were stored on top of the dispenser in the restroom rather than inside a sanitary dispensing unit. A mop to clean the facility was seen stored in dirty water.

A damaged wall was observed in the dry storage area, with visible cracks and exposed material that may hinder proper cleaning and harbor pests. A more detailed report is available online.

Follow-up Inspection

Kesar Grill and Sweets has received a yellow placard due to multiple major violations observed during inspection. A reinspection is set to take place within 24-72 hours. The restaurant must correct all the major violations to receive a green placard and to prevent delays in reopening.
