Taj Grill Indian Cuisine in Sacramento is a casual restaurant serving authentic North and South Indian dishes. The inspection report cited several health code violations and suggested required corrective actions for the restaurant. The major and minor violations are listed below:
- A recent food certification and food handler card were not available during inspection.
- Inspectors saw employees washing dishes while wearing gloves, then handling food without washing hands or changing gloves.
- Soap was missing in the dispenser at the handwash sink near the food preparation area and the restroom.
- The restaurant also kept cooked rice in the rice cooker/warmer at an unfavorable temperature. The operator voluntarily discarded the food during the inspection upon instructions.
- Raw meat was also found stored above raw shrimp inside the refrigerator; improper bags were being used to contain the food. The officials advised only using food-grade bags and containers.
- Bulk food containers were not labeled properly.

The restaurant is required to follow the guidelines mentioned in the official inspection report and correct all the major and minor violations. The restaurant needs to make corrective actions to ensure compliance with food safety standards.
As Taj Grill Indian Cuisine received a yellow placard during its routine health inspection, the department will conduct a reinspection within 24-72 hours. The restaurant has to pay additional fees for the reinspection.
The restaurant is required to successfully pass the reinspection to receive a green placard from Sacramento County. For now, the yellow placard must remain on display.
If the restaurant fails to comply with the corrective actions, then it can result in serious consequences, including permanent closure of the restaurant.
