Fast-casual restaurant MF Gyros & Burgers specializes in freshly made gourmet and gyro burgers and offers a fusion menu. According to the official report, the restaurant was not in compliance with the health code. The report listed these violations:

  • The report said an employee lacked basic knowledge of food safety procedures, including proper handwashing, dishwashing, and prep-table cleaning, requiring training within 24 hours. This was marked as a repeat violation.
  • The facility did not provide valid California food handler cards.
  • During inspection, staff were observed handling phones, dirty dishes, and other non-food items without washing their hands or replacing their gloves before touching food. They also did not change gloves after handling raw meat before handling clean dishes.
  • Inspectors found that a pan washed only with soap was not sanitized before reuse.
  • A dead cockroach was found on the floor in front of the soda machine and a nearby cabinet.
  • Raw beef was found thawing improperly on a table near the freezer rather than under refrigeration.
  • The facility did not have quaternary ammonium test strips that were needed to verify sanitizer concentrations.
  • An unapproved scoop was found inside a bulk dry food container (salt/rice), stored incorrectly with the handle immersed in the food.
  • A rice scoop was left soaking in water at 69°F, outside of safe storage ranges.

  • Grease buildup was found in the kitchen’s ventilation hood filters.
  • The establishment did not have a probe thermometer capable of reading 0°F-220°F. The monitoring thermometer in the prep-line reach-in refrigerator was missing or improperly located.
  • 0 ppm sanitizer on wiping towels was stored on the prep table between uses.
  • The floor in the soda syrup storage room was made of non-approved material and lacked a coved base.
  • Although the facility did not have approved customer restrooms or approval for dine-in service, inspectors found two tables with around a dozen chairs set up for dine-in, noted the report.

According to the official report, the restaurant received a yellow placard, indicating that a reinspection will be held in the next 24 to 72 hours. For the eatery to receive a green placard, it must correct all the major violations ahead of the reinspection.
