Sacramento Restaurant Cited for Violations After Recent Health Inspection

A recent health inspection at Sacramento’s Sizzler revealed several violations, prompting a yellow placard and a follow-up inspection.

The steak establishment received a yellow placard from the department on Thursday for violations of the California Health and Safety Code.

Sizzler’s menu features items such as steak, Italian Herb Chicken, and Grilled Shrimp Skewers. The restaurant was cited for several violations of the California Health and Safety Code.

According to the inspection report, the women’s restroom at Sizzler did not have soap for handwashing. The soap dispenser at the cook’s handwash station was not properly functioning.

The report further states that multiple food items were kept in violation of required temperature ranges. While the buffet’s small corn dogs were held hot between 123°F-127°F, fried chicken was between 106°F-118°F. An overfilled container of chicken pasta at 49°F in the buffet’s cold bar. The final cooking temperature of grilled chicken was observed at 155°F.

According to the report, open food items were found inside the three-door upright cooler and freezer. The staff at Sizzler was found storing bacon packages below the condenser unit inside the walk-in freezer. Condensation ice buildup was observed on top of the freezer.

An open container with sliced lemons was stored at the customer self-service area of the Sacramento steak place. Plates were kept in the same place without a proper sneeze guard.

The report stated that grease had accumulated on the floor beneath cooking equipment. Debris build-up was observed inside an unused oven at Sizzler as well.

A rusted shelf with unapproved lining storing onions was found in Sizzler’s back prep area. The report also noted a leak at the three-compartment sink. Broken floor tiles near the cook’s entry area at the handwash station were listed in the report as well.

Follow-Up Inspection

According to the report, Sizzler was issued a yellow placard due to the noted violations. However, a reinspection could take place at the Sacramento facility in the next 24-72 hours. If all major violations are corrected, the steak spot may get a green placard.
