Vietnamese Coffee Shop in Sacramento Cited for Multiple Violations in Health Inspection

Vinhouse Tea & Coffee underwent a routine check on February 4 by the Sacramento health department. The eatery was issued a yellow placard after being cited for multiple health code violations.

Vinhouse Tea & Coffee serves Vietnamese beverages in Sheldon. According to the report, the eatery was found to be non-compliant with the food safety code. Some of the violations are:

  • Coconut cream/milk was found left unattended on a prep counter and measured 67°F. It was voluntarily discarded by staff.
  • Cheese- and taro-filled pastries were found to have been prepared at home by the owner, which is not permitted. The practice was ordered to stop immediately.
  • Two employees were found to have expired food handler cards and were directed to renew them within 30 days. Open personal beverage cups were seen on the back prep table. Employees were instructed to discontinue the practice.
  • The menu board did not clearly identify food items that may be served raw or undercooked with a required asterisk and advisory.

  • Household appliances, including an air fryer and toaster, were in use. They must be replaced with commercial-grade equipment within six months or removed, the report said.
  • A two-compartment sink in the front service area was not flush to the wall.
  • The report found the espresso machine draining into a plastic wastewater container instead of a floor sink, contrary to approved plans.
  • An electric fly catcher was set up on a prep table near the warewashing sink and was relocated immediately, the report mentioned. Staff were instructed to train all employees on proper placement on the same day.

Follow-up Inspection

According to the report, the restaurant received a yellow placard, and a reinspection will be held within 24-72 hours. The eatery must correct the violations for a green placard. It was also asked to discontinue making pastries at home and remove the signs and advertisements from the board.
