After winning over Sacramento with its takeout-only cloud kitchen, AfroEatz is preparing to welcome guests to its very first dine-in location in Midtown Sacramento, reports Sacramento Business Journal.

The family-owned eatery—led by Sayeah Mayson, her partner Tonia Sambola, and her aunt Warnerlyn Warner—has signed a lease at 1725 I St, formerly home to Bambi Vegan Tacos. The 2,200-square-foot space will soon come alive with the vibrant colors, aromas, and spices of West Africa.

“You’ve been asking for a dine-in experience, and thanks to your incredible support—we made it happen!” the team announced on social media. “Our time in the cloud kitchen helped us grow, but now it’s time for you to fully experience the culture, the vibes, and the flavors of the Motherland—AfroEatz style. 🇱🇷🍽️

AfroEatz debuted on March 1, 2024 inside Sactown Eats, a restaurant co-op that allowed the trio to experiment, gain traction, and build a loyal following. They closed that location earlier this month to focus fully on the new brick-and-mortar.

The restaurant quickly became a DoorDash customer favorite, known for its comforting dishes like scratch-made meat pies, cassava leaves, and pepper soup with fufu. At the new brick-and-mortar spot, diners can expect those same staples alongside new offerings, including breakfast and brunch.

“Liberian food is one of the most underrated cuisines,” Mayson told What Now Sacramento. “A lot of people don’t know about Liberia, so they don’t know about the culture. But once they try the food, they love it—and they come back.”

Menu highlights will include their vegan take on jollof rice, typically served with options like whole fish, oxtail, or chicken. Their egusi with fufu—a West African stew with a Liberian twist—is another fan favorite, drawing visitors from as far away as Los Angeles.

Mayson is especially excited to serve dry rice, a traditional Liberian dish rarely found outside family kitchens. “Nobody else makes it unless you’re at your grandma’s house,” she explained, laughing. The base is parboiled rice, often customized with ingredients like okra, sardines, or kittely—a small, bitter African eggplant.

The AfroEatz team plans to incorporate a colorful mural and other updated design elements to reflect their heritage and create a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The new restaurant will seat 64 guests and is slated to open on June 1, 2025.

“This is not fast food,” Mayson said. “Our food is freshly made—authentically made—good food all the time.”
