Break out the scrunchies and crank up the cassette player—Back to the 80s Cafe & More is making its California comeback.

The 80s-themed restaurant and memorabilia wonderland is “coming soon” to the Sacramento area, according to a recent social media update from owner Chris Knecht. An exact location hasn’t been announced.

Knecht launched his retro empire in Midtown in 2014 with Back to the 80s Store & More, a nostalgic retail shop packed with toys, games, and pop culture relics—many of which came from his late grandfather’s antique mall in Iowa.

In 2017, Knecht leveled up and opened the first Back to the 80s Cafe & More in Rancho Cordova, fusing food and fandom under one neon-lit roof. Following the pandemic, Knecht moved operations to Las Vegas, where the cafe has cultivated a devoted online and IRL fanbase. It’s unclear whether the Vegas location will remain open once the new Sacramento outpost debuts.

The concept is known for its immersive 80s atmosphere—think wall-to-wall memorabilia, retro tunes, and rare novelty candies—plus a playful menu of decade-themed dishes. Guests can expect sandwiches, burgers, salads, and treats like “Smooth Criminal Smoothies” and “Time Warp Milkshakes.”

Knecht has not yet responded to inquiries from What Now Sacramento, so stay tuned for more details as Back to the 80s rewinds to the Golden State.
