A new café is brewing in Downtown Sacramento.

Baker’s Brew Cafe will soon take over the former Capitol Café & Bistro space at 621 Capitol Mall, according to a recently filed fictitious business statement. Capitol Café & Bistro, which operated in the same space for just 10 months, closed in April 2024, citing low foot traffic and pandemic-related challenges.

Colliers is the brokerage handling leasing for the space Baker’s Brew will occupy. Dave Herrera, an executive vice president with Colliers, told the Sacramento Business Journal that the café will take up about 2,000 square feet on the ground floor of the 25-story office building formerly known as the U.S. Bank Tower.

Although one of the Baker’s Brew owners briefly confirmed the news with What Now Sacramento, he declined to share additional details at this time. However, the café is expected to serve coffee, beer, and light bites. A full announcement—including menu offerings and an official opening timeline—is expected in roughly one month.

Following the closure of Capitol Café & Bistro, Baker’s Brew Cafe is set to offer a fresh destination for coffee and light fare in Downtown Sacramento. Stay tuned for updates as the new eatery prepares to welcome its first customers.
