A new brewery is gearing up to pour its first pints in Sacramento.
Balance Beerworks is taking over the former Device Brewing Co. space, just a short drive from Sacramento State at 8166 14th Ave, reports the Sacramento Business Journal.
A local team of craft beer veterans bought all of Device’s brewing equipment and is leasing 10,000 square feet that will house production, storage, and a 55-person taproom, with plans for outdoor seating pending approval.
Partner Bryce McEfee told What Now Sacramento that Balance Beerworks is run by a tight-knit team of beer enthusiasts, each bringing their own craft beer expertise. “We are family and friends, with varying craft beer industry backgrounds, balanced together to combine and utilize our individual strengths, experiences and knowledge to create a community brewery,” he wrote in an email.
The beer lineup will feature lagers, IPAs, and seasonal brews, along with experimental styles the team plans to explore just for fun. While Balance Beerworks won’t have in-house food, outside meals are welcome, and the brewery hopes to collaborate with local food trucks and restaurants to provide tasty pairings from time to time.
Although the team is eager to open, progress has stalled due to the federal government shutdown, which has delayed approval from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau—a necessary step before state regulators can give the green light. They’re aiming to launch sometime in the first quarter of 2026.
McEfee said the team hopes to create a relaxed, welcoming space where everyone feels at home: “We are a group with kids, so we want a family-friendly chill vibe. A place that everyone feels welcome, a place for community to gather and enjoy life. We want everyone to join us for good times that hopefully help you, FIND YOUR BALANCE.”
