Earlier this month, What Now Sacramento reported that a local award‑winning, pirate‑themed coffee roaster had closed its Citrus Heights pop‑up café while hunting for a permanent space. Now, it appears that a location has been selected.
Black Sails Coffee Roasters ris taking over the former site of Naked Coffee Roasting & Café at 3527 Broadway in Sacramento’s Oak Park neighborhood, according to The Sacramento Bee. Co‑owners Sean McCullough and Anthony Pulido have signed a lease for the Broadway space, which housed Naked Coffee until it shuttered toward the end of 2025.
Guests at the Oak Park café can expect a full café experience centered on Black Sails’ small-batch coffee, alongside handcrafted espresso drinks, brewed coffee, and teas, building on the offerings that made the Citrus Heights pop-up a hit.
McCullough, who brings nearly two decades of coffee industry experience, launched the company as a cottage operation, roasting on a small home machine before steadily expanding into pop‑ups, wholesale accounts, and competition stages. Before landing on Broadway, the duo had also explored opening in Gold River but ultimately shelved the project as permitting hurdles and costs mounted.
With preparations now underway in Oak Park, Black Sails Coffee is expected to open before the end of February 2026, according to the company’s social media. Until then, fans can continue to purchase Black Sails Coffee beans online and at select Sacramento-area businesses.
