A local specialty coffee roaster is closing its pop-up café in search of fresh digs.
Award-winning roaster Black Sails Coffee Lounge has shuttered its pop-up café at the Marketplace at Birdcage in Citrus Heights. In an Instagram post announcing the news, co-owners Anthony Pulido and Sean McCullough shared a heartfelt farewell:
Unfortunately the time has come – we must raise anchor at our pop-up Birdcage location and set sail for new waters… Thank you for your tremendous love and support over these last few months. We have been honored, and have loved, being a place for you all to hang out and enjoy good music, good vibes, and good coffee. 🖤
The café officially closed its doors at 5925 Birdcage Centre Lane, Suite 102 on December 21, though Pulido and McCullough assure fans that this isn’t the end. “This isn’t goodbye forever, just a goodbye for now whilst we search for a home port,” they added in a later post.
Finding a new location has proven challenging. The Citrus Heights Sentinel reports that previous alternative spaces were too small for Black Sails’ needs, and the local business improvement district is now assisting in the search for a new spot.
Founded in a Rancho Cordova home kitchen in 2019, Black Sails Coffee has grown into a celebrated small-batch roaster. Its pop-up café was the first physical space where guests could sip handcrafted beverages, shop freshly roasted beans, and enjoy loose-leaf teas in a cozy setting.
While a new location remains on the horizon, fans can purchase Black Sails Coffee beans online and at select Sacramento-area businesses. What Now Sacramento has reached out to the owners for further details and will continue to share updates as Black Sails Coffee Lounge searches for a new space to call home.
