A new concept called Love Child is taking over the old gourmet doughnut shop Milk Monkey at Ice Blocks space, located at 1715 R St., Suite 100. The new restaurant will be a micro bodega featuring nutrient-dense, plant-forward, grab-and-go items and is anticipated to open in the first half of 2024.
Love Child is operated by familiar names: Michael Hargis and Brock Macdonald, who is also working on a smokehouse called Slow & Low in Elk Grove. During the pandemic, the pair started Love Child as a pop-up concept at Midtown’s MARRS building. During its pop-up era, Love Child focused on vegan and plant-based meals, including vegan double double burger, hot fried mushroom nuggets, and salads.
However, the brick-and-mortar restaurant will have a more extensive menu of bowls, sandwiches, wraps, and salads branching beyond vegan options, including grass-fed beef, Mary’s Organic Chicken, and line-caught salmon. The new restaurant will have a walk-up window for customers to order, but also a retail market selling items such as coffee, chocolate, nut butter, natural sodas, and wines.
Meanwhile, fans of the old Milk Monkey would be delighted to find the concept returning as a monthly pop-up in Love Child. The operators are hopeful regarding the concept and believe there may be an opportunity to bring Milk Monkey back as a brick-and-mortar business in the future.
The new Love Child is currently under construction, including a new 1,000-square-foot wood parklet to provide additional seating for customers. By the time of this coverage, the operators had not replied to What Now Sacramento‘s request for comments.
