A Reno, Nevada-based hot chicken chain is bringing the heat to Davis.
Crazy D’s Hot Chicken is planning to open its eighth location in the former 2,800-square-foot Woodstock’s Pizza space at 219 G St, reports Wendy Weitzel of the Comings & Goings newsletter. The expansion is led by franchisee Ankush Walia and his partner, Davinder Sahota, who also operate the brand’s only current California outpost in Woodland.
Known for its fiery Nashville-style hot chicken, Crazy D’s uses 100% halal, all-natural chicken delivered daily and fries everything in 100% peanut oil. Each piece is marinated for 24 hours, then hand-battered and deep-fried to golden perfection. Diners can customize the heat with five different levels, ranging from the mild “Country Style” to the blistering “Crazy”—which requires a signed waiver.
In addition to the flaming hot chicken, the menu features smashburgers, fresh salads, housemade drinks, and classic Southern sides like coleslaw, onion rings, and mac and cheese. The Davis location is also planning to serve beer.
Walia told What Now Sacramento that the new Crazy D’s eatery will include food challenges and community-focused events. “Grand openings are usually huge for us,” he said. “Because we want to be a part of a community… [We’re] very big on the community side. We take all the sponsorships, we serve all the fundraisers… we like to give back. So anybody who wants to do any fundraising is more than welcome, anybody who wants to do sponsorships is more than welcome.”
Construction is slated to start in July, with Crazy D’s Davis scheduled to open in September or October 2025. Once it debuts, the new location will join existing outposts in California, Nevada, and Utah.
