A new pizzeria is gearing up to open along Sacramento’s Broadway corridor.
Frico Pizza Co. is slated to open next to School of Rock at 1429 Broadway, Suite B, according to recently filed business documents. The approximately 1,200-square-foot space was formerly occupied by Jamba Juice and is part of a building that shares a parking lot with a former Walgreens, which closed early last year. A restaurant called Power Bowl was previously announced to take over the Jamba storefront, though it looks like it was only open for a short time.
The new pizzeria comes from local owners Rodney Jong and Jonathan Chin, who say they eventually hope to franchise the restaurant. Frico Pizza Co. will specialize in Detroit-style deep-dish pizza—a square, pan-baked style known for its airy, fermented dough and crisp, focaccia-like crust. Staying true to its name, the pizzeria will feature the style’s signature “frico” edge, where cheese caramelizes directly against the pan to form a golden, crunchy perimeter.
While the menu is still being finalized, Jong told the Sacramento Business Journal that Frico will also serve 14-inch round New York–style pies, offering a thinner, foldable alternative to the thick Detroit-style slices. “We’re trying to build something around really good pizza that brings people together,” he said.
The property is brokered by Dave Herrera and Trevor Jackson of Colliers. Herrera described the project as “a great addition to Land Park,” noting it will offer another appealing dining option for neighborhood pizza lovers.
Frico Pizza Co. will feature limited seating, with a primary focus on takeout. The owners are still finalizing hours but tentatively plan to operate daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Jong and Chin are targeting an April or May 2026 opening. What Now Sacramento has reached out to the team for additional details and will update this page as more information becomes available.
