A smashburger eatery that recently debuted in Carmichael is already cooking up location number two.
According to a social media post from Turton Commercial Real Estate broker Kimio Bazett, Gami Burger is opening its second restaurant at 2301 K St in Midtown Sacramento, taking over the former Burger Patch space. The vegan burger joint officially closed on September 1.
Owners Scott Ostrander and Paul DiPierro left fine dining behind to open Origami Asian Grill in East Sacramento in 2018. In 2021, they launched Gami Burger as a series of sell-out pop-ups inside Origami, eventually opening their first standalone Carmichael shop in the former Willie’s Burgers space in late June 2025.
Scott told What Now Sacramento that the K Street location felt like a natural fit. “The building itself is owned by a family we’ve come to know over the last 10 years,” he explained, adding that they had previously helped Burger Patch get up and running. “Coincidentally, Burger Patch closed in early September and the timing felt good… A burger establishment to a burger establishment. It was literally what we had just done with the old Willie’s in Carmichael.”
The Midtown restaurant will closely mirror the original, serving classic smashburgers with American cheese on Truckee Sourdough Co. brioche buns. It will also feature Japanese-inspired touches, including housemade sunomono pickles, togarashi-dusted fries, and sandwiches stacked with pastrami, fried chicken, or ahi tuna steak, reports Abridged.org.
The team is applying for an alcohol license and plans to offer a broad beer-and-wine selection. Additionally, they’re holding on to Burger Patch’s milkshake machine, which is currently being retrofitted to churn dairy-based shakes.
The space, which seats 22 indoors and 12 on a potential patio, will feature expanded touch-screen ordering and late-night service on weekends, potentially until 1 or 2 a.m. Gami Burger is slated to open in the coming weeks, with pop-up style soft openings expected to continue through the holidays.
