A familiar name in Sacramento-area dining is branching out with a brand-new concept.
Chef John Hornibrook, the executive chef behind Folsom’s Mystique Dining, is opening his own eatery called Ramblehorn at 20153 CA-88 in the heart of Pine Grove, according to recently filed city permits. Hornibrook has not yet commented publicly, but a Craigslist job listing and a new Yelp page for the restaurant confirm the news.
Although an official menu hasn’t been released, the job posting describes Ramblehorn as a “rustic mountain-town breakfast and lunch spot serving hearty Americana comfort food” with “scratch-made classics” and a “warm, mountain-town vibe.” The Yelp page further categorizes it as New American with breakfast, brunch, coffee, and tea.
According to the Mystique Dining website, Chef Hornibrook grew up cooking alongside his mother in Stockton and began working in professional kitchens as soon as he was old enough to earn a work permit. After high school, he ran a food cart and catering business with his older brother while finishing a degree in business administration.
Hornibrook later grew his culinary expertise throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, Japan, Central America, and Southern California, honing his skills in both international and classic American cuisine. In 2018, he joined Mystique Dining as executive chef in Folsom and now guides menu development and staff training with a focus on consistent, five-star quality.
An official opening date for Ramblehorn has not been announced, but the restaurant is currently hiring full- and part-time staff. “Friendly people, good food, great service,” reads the job posting. “We can’t wait to open our doors.”
