A drive-through coffee chain is expanding its footprint in the Greater Sacramento area.
Local franchisee Steve Grubbs recently submitted plans under Grubbs Investments, LLC to open his seventh Dutch Bros location at 7911 Auburn Blvd in Citrus Heights, taking over the former Rally’s drive-thru space.
Steve and his wife, Nikol, already operate six Dutch Bros shops in Sacramento, Fair Oaks, Carmichael, Antelope, and Citrus Heights, making this their third location in Citrus Heights.
Unlike some new builds, the project won’t require major construction. Steve told What Now Sacramento that updates will mostly involve a fresh coat of paint, new signage, and minor interior tweaks to bring the 827-square-foot kiosk in line with Dutch Bros’ signature aesthetic.
The clever drive-thru design will allow for double stacking, accommodating up to 22 cars before narrowing to a single lane at the window. It will also feature an escape lane to help keep traffic moving on busy days.
Permitting is already off to a smooth start. “We just got our first response back today and it looks pretty good,” Steve shared. “[The City of Citrus Heights] has been really amazing to work with.”
Once permits are finalized, construction should wrap up in just two to three months, meaning the new Dutch Bros is on track to open before the end of 2025.
Founded in 1992 in Grants Pass, Oregon, Dutch Bros has grown into a caffeine powerhouse with over 1,000 locations across 18 states and hundreds more in the pipeline.
The chain is beloved for its extensive menu of coffees, shakes, and energy drinks, plus a few pastries. Popular picks include the Golden Eagle (espresso, caramel, vanilla, and half and half with a caramel drizzle) and the Aftershock Rebel (a fruity blend of strawberry, blackberry, raspberry, and lime syrups mixed into a Rebel energy drink).
