Pangaea Bier Cafe has served craft beer and high-end pub food in Curtis Park for 17 years. The brewpub has announced that it will close its present Sacramento location in March.

Pangaea Bier Cafe to Close in March

Pangaea Bier Cafe, opened in 2008, has developed a following of craft beer and food lovers. It has played a significant role over the years in the developing craft beer market in Sacramento.

Pangaea stood out from a typical taproom thanks to its full kitchen serving gourmet sausages, burgers, sandwiches, and daily specials. The food items are paired thoughtfully with beer selections. Its casual patio atmosphere and local vibe made it a frequent meeting place for Curtis Park and its neighbors.

Pangaea Bier Cafe at 2743 Franklin Boulevard announced its closure on Tuesday. Over its nearly 17-year run, the tavern faced its share of challenges, from market shifts to rising rents. However, the team’s courage and community support made it a successful establishment.

The announcement mentioned, “We’ve shared truly incredible experiences in this building—helping shape craft beer culture, contributing to the growth of Sacramento’s food scene, and most importantly, connecting an amazing community of people who made this place feel like home.”

Reason Behind the Closure

The closure is associated with lease-related issue. After several talks with the landlord, the owner was unable to secure a lease extension to keep Pangaea open. The cafe is currently intending to run until March 19. This will allow patrons to visit the cafe at its current location.

The team is optimistic about the possibility of moving the Pangaea brand to other parts of Sacramento, as they are actively searching for another location. They are also helping team members find employment opportunities to ensure a smooth transition.

The news has led to an avalanche of emotional comments from longtime patrons, most of whom recounted events, beer tastings, and neighborhood gatherings at the cafe. To most locals, Pangaea is not a restaurant; it has been a community center.

The impending closure of Pangaea Bier Cafe is an important change to the dining community of Curtis Park. As relocation efforts are underway, the team seems keen to preserve the culture and identity. Until it closes, fans can stop by Franklin Boulevard to raise a farewell glass and celebrate nearly two decades of craft beer and community.
