A new fast-casual mac and cheese concept is headed to Carmichael.
Twisted Mac, the sister brand of Italian-American chain Romano’s Macaroni Grill, has signed a lease for an approximately 1,600-square-foot space at 4790 Manzanita Ave, according to recently updated leasing materials. The eatery will be located in the FoodMaxx-anchored Crestview Village Shopping Center.
Originally launched as a virtual brand during the pandemic, Twisted Mac recently announced plans to franchise, with standalone locations planned for California, Texas, and Utah.
The menu started with “adult-sized” mac and cheese bowls in indulgent flavors such as Truffle, Buffalo Chicken, and Cheeseburger, and has since expanded to include a variety of authentic Italian subs and brick-oven pizzas inspired by specific regions of Italy.
According to the Sacramento Business Journal, the franchise rollout is being led by pilot franchisee Russell Bushnell, Macaroni Grill’s director of operations. Bushnell has not yet responded to requests for comment from What Now Sacramento.
Ethan Conrad Construction is overseeing a full remodel of the Crestview Village space, which is expected to take about 90 days. A grand opening date is still to be determined.
In the meantime, Romano’s Macaroni Grill already offers Twisted Mac dishes for pickup and delivery at its Roseville restaurant.
