A once-beloved Midtown Sacramento sushi burrito spot is officially making a comeback after a six-year hiatus.
Make Fish Market is gearing up to reopen in its original home at 1801 L Street, Suite 70, owner Mymy Nguyen confirmed. The original restaurant closed in 2020, just before the pandemic.
“When we left in early 2020, we knew it wouldn’t be the end, we just needed to find the right time to circle back to it,” the team shared in a press release. “This has always been a passion project and we are so excited to be back.”
Originally launched in 2012 under the name Wrap N’ Roll Sushi Burrito, the concept helped introduce Sacramento diners to the now-familiar idea of sushi in burrito form.
Founded by Nguyen and her husband Jimmy Voong, the restaurant quickly built a following with its approachable take on sushi, allowing guests to mix and match proteins, toppings, and sauces without the formality of a traditional sushi bar.
As the brand evolved, it rebranded as Make Fish and expanded the menu to include poke bowls, offering another fresh build-your-own option alongside its signature sushi burritos. At its peak, Make Fish also operated locations in Davis and Elk Grove, though both closed in 2019 as the team reevaluated its broader restaurant portfolio.
According to the release, rapid market saturation ultimately prompted a strategic pullback. But now, the team says the revival comes with renewed focus and hard-earned perspective. When doors reopen, guests can expect “thoughtfully crafted” sushi burritos and poke bowls, “and a brand that feels both familiar and refreshed.”
Slated for a March 2026 return, Make Fish Market will operate just steps from Saigon Alley Kitchen + Bar, Nguyen’s Vietnamese restaurant located in the same Midtown corridor.
“The reopening marks not just a return, but a recommitment—to creativity, to quality, and to the community that supported Make Fish from the beginning,” reads the release. “Our team calls this- Make Fish, reinvented.”
