A local restaurant group is cooking up something new in Downtown Sacramento.

A new restaurant called Aiona is planned for the space at 1213 K Street that was formerly occupied by Esquire Grill, Sacramento Business Journal reports. Esquire Grill was a steakhouse that closed several years ago after two decades in business.

The new concept taking its place comes from WM Restaurants, which is also the team behind acclaimed Italian restaurant Allora, Woodlake Tavern and Uptown Pizza Kitchen.

Aiona is slated to feature Italian, Greek and Spanish fusion cuisine, including tapas-style plates, steaks, a full bar and more.

WM Restaurants CEO Deneb Williams told What Now Sacramento that Aiona is expected to open in October 2025.
