Betty Wine Bar and Bottle Shop at 1103 T St is now under new ownership. Chef and restaurateur Chris Barnumdann, who owns Michelin-starred restaurant Localis in Midtown, will expand food and beverage offerings at the establishment. Hours will also be extended to 9 a.m. to 9 p.m, seven days a week. This news was first seen in the Business Journal.
“We just kind of want to give Sacramento its first truly European wine bar experience,” Barnumdann told the Business Journal. “Where you can go earlier in the day, and you can also go at lunch, you can also go at dinner. And we want you to feel like it’s that place that you can just be comforted no matter what time of day is.”
Betty Wine Bar and Bottle Shop opened two years ago in Southside Park and has since become a community spot with regular Thursday evening tastings and other programming. The space features a rustic, warehouse-like interior and a small, covered back patio.
Localis’ sous chef Amanda Smith will take helm with veteran Betty managers Jenna Sergeant and Cheryl Catera. Betty will close Nov. 25 and reopen on Dec. 5 with the new menu. The name “Betty” will remain as Barnumdann’s grandmother’s name was also Betty.
“Colleen (Fleming), who was the original owner, it was her grandma’s birthday, and she kind of called me out of nowhere and said that she was looking to sell Betty, and thought that my skill set would go really well,” Barnumdann told the Business Journal. “And when it came to thinking about actually buying it, it was quick realization that my Nana, whose name was Betty, I was their only grandchild … from an adopted parent, and we were always extremely close, so Betty already has kind of a place in my heart, and that’s why we’re not changing the name.”
