An Irish pub may have poured its last pint at 715 K Street, but the party’s far from over in downtown Sacramento.

After nearly a decade at its popular K Street space, Malt & Mash officially closed its doors on Sunday, July 20, 2025. The team shared a heartfelt goodbye on social media:

Our thanks and appreciation to every past and present staff members and managers. Cheers to the bands and dj s that graced our stage. And most of all thank you to every guest that’s walked thru our doors over the past decade. Sacramento we love you and we are excited for our new venture coming this fall.

That new venture is Parkside Bar Sacramento, a national parks-themed bar from industry veteran Bob Simpson.

I’ve owned Malt and Mash for a decade,” Simpson told What Now Sacramento. “We received the notification a couple of months back that we were going to be one of the entertainment zones in the city of Sacramento, and we thought, ‘What a great opportunity to do something fresh, exciting, and new that would complement the neighborhood.'”

A seasoned figure in the local nightlife scene, Simpson’s portfolio includes K Street’s Townie Bar, Parkside Sports Bar & Grill in Davis, and a previous role as an owner of downtown Sacramento’s Social Nightclub. “I have to surround myself with creative young people because I’m aging,” Simpson joked. “But I still love what I do, so I think that’s the most important thing.”

While Parkside Bar Sacramento draws inspiration from the Parkside concept in Davis, the new venue will have its own unique identity. “Davis is a little bit more sports bar and grill-related,” explained Simpson. “Here, we’re bringing the outdoors inside.”

Located just a short walk from Golden 1 Center, the new bar is set to become a go-to spot for pre- and post-show hangs. Seating 181 carousers, the venue promises heaps of high-energy fun, featuring giant swings, beer pong tables, and DJs spinning both indoors and outside on the patio.

To fuel the party, Simpson is teaming up with Chando’s Tacos located just across the street. Guests can expect a menu of Tijuana-style Mexican street eats, including tacos, tortas, tostadas, and burritos.

Currently undergoing a full renovation, Parkside Bar Sacramento is slated to debut in mid-September 2025. For sneak peeks and updates, follow along on Instagram @parksidesac.
