A beloved breakfast eatery in North Highlands is making a comeback.

Pancake Palace, located at 6225 Watt Ave, has been closed since May 2024, when a fire forced the longtime restaurant to temporarily shut down. Though no one was injured, the blaze caused significant damage to both the kitchen and dining area.

Now, after months of anticipation, the team has shared a promising update on social media, along with behind-the-scenes photos of the rebuild. “We can’t wait to see you all again,” they wrote. “Quick update, all permits have finally been obtained. Construction/remodel has begun. Plans are to hopefully reopen in September. Should have a more precise date towards end of August.”

A neighborhood favorite for more than 27 years, Pancake Palace is known for its classic lineup of breakfast and brunch favorites, including chicken-fried steak, omelets, waffles, and its namesake pancakes.

“My customers are the best. They are very loyal,” Pancake Palace owner Mohammad Shatnawi told KCRA 3 last year. “It’s a very good community. It’s been good to us.”

Mahmoud Shatnawi, the owner’s son and a partner in the business, told What Now Sacramento that more details are forthcoming. In the meantime, follow Pancake Palace on Facebook for updates.
