A new Middle Eastern café is making its way to Downtown Sacramento.
Oakland’s Lazeez Kitchen is expanding to the capital city with a new spin-off concept called Lazeez Express, set to open at 1000 I St. Recent Craigslist job listings show that the café is already hiring line cooks and baristas.
While owner-chef Nuredin Nurahmed confirmed the plans with What Now Sacramento, he’s keeping the details under wraps for now. However, a peek at the Lazeez Express website offers a preview of what’s to come.
Diners can expect a menu much like the original Oakland eatery, featuring shawarma plates, wraps, omelettes, falafel with hummus, sambusas, and cucumber yogurt dip, plus desserts like baklava and kunafa. As the ‘express’ name suggests, the new location will also spotlight coffee and milk tea, perfect for a downtown pick-me-up.
Though an opening date has not yet been announced, the café’s hours are already listed on the website: Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with weekends kicking off at 9 a.m.
Stay tuned for updates, as Nurahmed has promised to share more details next week.
