Red Bus Brewing Co., a small-batch production brewery and taproom in Folsom has decided to add a pizza kitchen and convert the temporary patio built during the Covid-19 pandemic to a permanent one. Located at 802A Reading St., Red Bus Brewing Co. is one of the larger brewers in the area with last year’s craft beer production hitting approximately 350 barrels.
Red Bus Brewing Co. was established in 2018 by co-owners Erik Shmid and Owen Bankson. For over a decade, Erik saw Folsom’s need to have its own brewery and decided to take the matter into his own hands. During the pandemic, many breweries built temporary patios to comply with State requirements. Now that restrictions are lifted, these patios must be converted to permanent ones and permitted by the end of the year to continue to exist.
Last week, Red Bus Brewing Co. received a conditional use permit and site design approval from the Folsom Planning Commission to move forward with a permanent outdoor patio area of approximately 1,000 square fee and an accessory kitchen serving wood-fired pizzas out of a converted shipping container in the front of the business. The pizza kitchen would also include an order and pickup window.
Schmid expects the new kitchen and patio to debut by the end of 2023 or in the spring of 2024. Additionally, Red Bus Brewing Co.’s Brian Wallace Gallery is also open. The gallery shows 10 to 12 pieces of Brian Wallace art and also features local artists from the Folsom Arts Association on a rotating basis.
By the time of this coverage, Schmid hadn’t responded to What Now Sacramento‘s request for comment. Red Bus Brewing Co. is located inside the Folsom Industrial Park off Bidwell Street, blocks away from the Historical Railroad Wye.
