A fast-growing dessert concept is bringing its signature over-the-top sweets to Northern California.

Tulsa, Oklahoma-based Sugar Llamas is gearing up to open its first Sacramento-area locations at 8300 Sierra College Blvd, Suite I in Roseville and 3051 Stanford Ranch Rd, Suite D1 in Rocklin. Both shops are targeting a July or August 2026 debut, pending construction and permitting timelines.

The local push is led by husband-and-wife franchisees Travis and Janelle Hawkins. The pair says they’re eager to introduce Sugar Llamas’ highly customizable, high-energy dessert experience to the region. Meanwhile, Travis’ brother, Tyler Hawkins, is also joining the expansion, with a third California location planned for 3041 Oakdale Rd, Suite 625 in Modesto.

Founded in 2021 by Dallas and Robyn Jones, Sugar Llamas was designed to be a welcoming space where families, teens, and everyone in between could gather over hot, freshly made mini donuts, gourmet coffee, and premium ice cream. Today, the brand is growing rapidly, with expansion plans spanning eight states and 33 locations under contract.

Part dessert bar, part mini-donut shop, and part café, Sugar Llamas leans into indulgence with a quick-service format. The menu spans everything from classic ice cream scoops and milkshakes to more extravagant creations such as donut ice cream sundaes, waffle sundaes, and a towering “Mega” milkshake. For groups, there’s even a shareable sundae dubbed the “Llamapalooza.”

At the heart of the concept are the brand’s signature warm mini donuts, made fresh and available in more than 20 flavors. Options range from cinnamon roll and chocolate strawberry to cotton candy and pancake, with a choose-your-own-adventure approach to toppings, drizzles, and dustings. For celebrations, custom-decorated donut assortments will also be available by pre-order.

Drinks are just as wide-ranging as desserts, with a variety of Red Bull-based mixers (iced or blended), teas, lemonades, and a full lineup of coffee beverages, including lattes, frappes, and cappuccinos.

The Roseville shop will span about 2,000 square feet, offering seating for 36 diners inside and an extra 12 on an outdoor patio. The Rocklin outpost will be more compact at roughly 1,200 square feet, with seating for 16 indoors and another 16 outside.

“The environment is going to be fun and youthful,” Travis told What Now Sacramento. “We wanted to bring a place to town where families and friends can enjoy each other’s company with many dessert options instead of today’s norm and students can plug in and charge while studying or doing homework.”
