Bay Area-based 5 Tacos & Beers is building its first Sacramento area restaurant in the former Hot Italian space at 1627 16th St. This will be the chain’s first restaurant outside of Bay Area. The plans were announced over a year ago and construction will be beginning soon.

The chain highlights a rotating menu of craft beers and tacos inspired by traditional food from south of Jalisco, Mexico. The new 6,030 square feet restaurant will feature a full bar, outdoor patio and indoor dining. There will also be a dessert station showcasing churros and fresh tortillas being made to customers and passer-bys. The chain also has location in Albany, Berkeley and Walnut Creek.

Owner Lito Saldaña was born in Mexico and started in the culinary industry when he moved to the Bay Area in 1989. He helped a family member to open a restaurant back then. Saldaña also operates another Bay Area chain called Los Moles. Saldaña indicated the upcoming midtown location and another proposed site at at San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf will be 5 Tacos & Beers’ last corporate-owned locations as he had recently completed paperwork to franchise the chain. However, there are no plans for any expansion in the Greater Sacramento area right now.
