According to MySA, there is a Baskin-Robbins outpost opening at the Presa Court shopping plaza at 2246 Southeast Military Drive. Taking over a space formerly home to Arby’s, the eatery will soon be a neighbor to establishments such as a Dairy Queen, Laredo Taco Company, and Taqueria La Perla de Jalisco.
While many readers are familiar with the brand and have likely enjoyed a cup or cone of Baskin-Robbins ice cream, the company’s history is less well known.
Its website offers a brief introduction: “Back in 1945, Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins had a pretty great idea. See, they were big ice cream people. So while every other ice cream shop stuck with vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry, they decided to go big. Like, ‘let’s offer 31 flavors instead,’ big. Because ice cream should be an everyday treat… It’s safe to say Burt and Irv’s passion made an impact.”
Today, there are over 7,800 locations across Canada, Mexico, and the United States in North America; Brazil, Chile, and Colombia in South America; the United Kingdom; Spain, and Russia in Europe; and China, Japan, India, and South Korea in Asia.
What Now San Antonio reached out to the location’s franchisee, Andy Ali, to learn more about what he has planned for the upcoming spot; however, additional information could not be gathered before publication.
Nevertheless, according to a filing submitted earlier this year, renovations to the 2,133-square-foot space began on April 1 and are scheduled to be completed by September 30.
