Florida-based breakfast and brunch concept Keke’s Breakfast Cafe is preparing to enter the San Antonio market through a new six-unit franchise agreement.
The expansion will be led by longtime friends and first-time restaurant operators Danny Ohioze and Adebiyi Wale, who plan to bring the growing breakfast concept to Alamo City. The pair are currently scouting potential locations and have not yet announced an opening date.
Founded in 2006 by brothers Keith and Kevin Mahen, Keke’s Breakfast Cafe was created after the siblings, who grew up in Philadelphia, felt Orlando was missing the type of breakfast diners they were accustomed to back home. The brothers opened their first restaurant with a concept centered on traditional breakfast and brunch dishes.
The brand continued expanding over the following years before Denny’s acquired Keke’s in 2022. Since then, Keke’s has continued growing into new markets, offering an all-day breakfast and brunch menu featuring pancakes, French toast, omelets, breakfast bowls, avocado toast, sandwiches, and other daytime favorites.
According to information provided by the company, Wale became interested in the franchise after visiting a Keke’s location in downtown Dallas. The experience prompted him and Ohioze to explore bringing the concept to San Antonio.
The pair see an opportunity in San Antonio due to the city’s family-oriented population and demand for breakfast and lunch options. They believe the market has room for additional breakfast and brunch concepts, particularly in areas where popular restaurants can have long wait times.
Although neither owner has confirmed a specific San Antonio location or timeline, the six-unit agreement will bring another national breakfast and brunch concept to the local market.
The upcoming Keke’s locations will add another national breakfast and brunch brand to San Antonio, joining concepts such as The Toasted Yolk, Pür & Simple, Squeeze In, Another Broken Egg Cafe, and local all-day breakfast spots.
For now, Ohioze and Wale are focused on identifying the right locations for the first Keke’s restaurants in the San Antonio area. More details about the locations and opening timeline are expected as the plans progress.
