“European-inspired” eatery The Grill at Leon Springs is planning to rebuild after a fire destroyed the restaurant located at 24116 I-10 back in May 2021.

What Now San Antonio spoke briefly to owner Thierry Burke, but he was unable to disclose additional information before the time of publication. Nevertheless, recent public records provide some insight into The Grill’s comeback plans.

According to a construction permit application, the rebuilding of the 12,747-square-foot restaurant “to match original footprint conditions” is slated to begin on April 24 and be completed by November of this year. The job will cost an estimated $750,000 and be carried out by SA Partnership Architects, an architecture and integrated design practice also based in San Antonio.

For readers who are unfamiliar with The Grill, before the incident, the eatery was known as a “European-inspired destination serving eclectic fare & fine wines in a rustic locale with live music.”

According to its website, Burke, “began his culinary career in his native Paris and moved to Washington D.C. to continue his work with French chef Michel Laudier at the highly regarded Rive Gauche.” Afterward, he and his business partners opened L’Etoile in San Antonio in 1984. Not long before that business closed in 2009, he also opened The Grill.

A reopening date has not yet been announced, so stay tuned to The Grill’s Facebook for additional updates.
