Mostra Coffee has been pouring award-winning coffee since 2013, when friends Beverly & Sam Magtanong, Jelynn Malone, and Mike Arquines opened their micro coffee roaster in north county San Diego. “With their gifts, passion, and a shared Filipino heritage combined, the four friends set forward to serve coffee with a mission,” says the company’s website.
The company’s name, ‘Mostra,’ comes from the Italian word for performance. And it seems the owners have succeed in their goal of offering “top-quality coffee and products made to elevate performance to the highest level.” Mostra’s first retail shop opened in Carmel Mountain Ranch.
This summer, Mostra’s third retail store will open at 2001 Fourth Avenue, in the TRU Bankers Hill apartment and condo complex. The Mostra team made the announcement on their social media, writing, “Speaking of unexpected blessings…on behalf of the entire Mostra Family, we are beyond grateful, humbled, and excited to announce that we have partnered with H.G. Fenton and will be opening our third location.”
Making their own announcement, TRU Banker’s Hill wrote, “We are so excited to have such an incredible company that values community, sustainability and inclusivity. Mostra is a local San Diego micro roaster- a women, minority and immigrant-owned company bringing together communities and opportunities both locally & globally.”
Look for Mostra Bankers Hill, which will be located at the corner of 4th and Grape, to open later this summer, and enjoy a cup of Roaster Magazine’s 2020 Micro Roaster of the Year.
