Backyard Brewery have announced their pending debut in an industrial area of Escondido, bordering San Marcos off of 78. The brewery has been years in the making, transforming the former Sand Crab Restaurant into a brew facility and taproom.
What Now San Diego spoke to Owner Bill Carter about what to expect from the new beer brand. “I’ve been homebrewing for 20-something years. I have my beer list already planned out,” explains Carter. Now the priority is getting the building ready for thirsty customers.
Carter has the opening beer list mapped out with IPAs, a light and dark Belgian Ale, a Blonde, and a Stout. “I’ve always been an IPA guy but I plan to serve up a variety of beers, for those who aren’t into IPAs,” shares Carter.
Although he’s working off a one-barrel system, Carter hopes to have eight beers to open with. Beer first: they won’t have a food element on-site but will bring in food trucks on Fridays and Saturdays once they’re open.
The brewery is still a work-in-progress but the project is coming together, targeting an opening by the end of the year. Follow along with the project and get to know Backyard Brewery on Instagram.
