Barrel & Stave Brewing Co., a San Diego County-based craft brewery, is preparing to exit its CoLab Public House location in Vista, with its final day of operation scheduled for Sunday, June 15.

Owner Chris White tells SD Beer News that the limited brewing capacity and shared customer bases impact revenue and are key factors in the decision. The company is now actively seeking a new brewing space with an existing tasting room and hopes to land in North County coastal cities, specifically south of Oceanside or San Marcos. To commemorate its time at CoLab, Barrel & Stave will offer $5 pints, $10 crowlers, and 25% off four-packs from June 12 through June 15.

CoLab Public House, which opened in July 2022, is a 12,500-square-foot venue in Vista that brought together multiple beverage producers and a restaurant under one roof. The concept included shared brewing equipment, a first for San Diego County. Original tenants included Barrel & Stave Brewing, Breakwater Brewing, Laguna Beer Co., Propaganda Wine Co., and Baby’s Badass Burgers. Since then, Laguna Beer Co. and Baby’s Badass Burgers have left and were replaced by 117° West Spirits and Mom’s Pizza & Pasta. Barrel & Stave Brewing will be the next to depart, marking a shift in the tenant lineup.

Barrel & Stave Brewing Co. began as a taproom in Fullerton, sharing space with Jaxson’s chicken restaurant and operating under a Type 42 license that allowed the sale of guest beers and wines. The company also opened a taproom in Temecula in 2022, which has been performing well due to the lack of on-site beverage competition. The Temecula location offers 16 taps, along with 16oz cans and 32oz crowlers of any beers to go, and features food from nearby partners. Barrel & Stave specializes in craft beer and aims to expand brewing operations to produce up to 300 barrels per month in a future location.
