Board & Brew, a Southern California sandwich chain known for its laid-back surf-inspired vibe, fresh ingredients, and signature sauces, is getting ready to open a new location in Downtown San Diego at 825 N Harbor Dr #109.
Clayton Wheeler and his business partner Craig Applgate, who own the Blacktop Restaurant Group, recently submitted a liquor license application to open a new location in the upcoming Research and Development District (RaDD). This transformative $1.9 billion development is situated along San Diego’s downtown waterfront. Spanning six city blocks and encompassing approximately 1.7 million square feet, RaDD will become the largest urban commercial waterfront site on California’s Pacific coast. Wheeler tells What Now San Diego that they expect to open this new Board & Brew in the first quarter of 2026.
When this new location opens, customers can expect a menu featuring sandwiches, wraps, salads, and craft beers. Popular options include the Turkado with turkey and avocado, the Chicken Club with bacon and jack cheese, and the Baja Chicken with jalapeños and grilled onions. Vegetarian options, such as the Veggie Supreme, are also available. All sandwiches come with Board & Brew’s signature “Secret Sauce.” The restaurant uses fresh ingredients delivered daily, with no frozen meats.
Board & Brew was founded in 1979 in Del Mar, California. It has expanded to over 20 locations across California and Arizona. Each location is independently owned and operated. The company focuses on using fresh ingredients and providing community catering services. Board & Brew remains a popular spot for casual dining and sandwiches. The founders aimed to create a laid-back, surf-inspired dining experience that still resonates today.
