A new seafood-focused eatery called El Cata Mariscos & Sushi is getting ready to take over San Diego with at least four locations, starting with a site in Lemon Grove at 8099 Broadway.

The company will start by replacing The Barn House BBQ, which replaced Inpasta Artisan Pasta and Pizza, according to a recent liquor license application. Owner Yesica Cerda tells What Now San Diego that this location is expected to open on January 23. When this site opens, customers can expect various seafood and sushi options, with the owners carefully sourcing the freshest ingredients and products. Cedra says customers will be able to taste the difference, mentioning none of the seafood will be frozen.

This is just the beginning for Al Cata Mariscos & Sushi. Cedra tells What Now San Diego she hopes to open at least four locations in San Diego County this year. Next, she hopes to open a second location in Coronado before expanding elsewhere in San Diego. The business owner is looking for potential sites for its third and fourth locations. After this, Cedra plans to expand the brand into Las Vegas.

Until then, she is focused on the company’s upcoming debut and waiting for the city’s final inspection. Al Cata Mariscos & Sushi will thrive in its first location, as there are plenty of other businesses nearby, and it will not compete with many other seafood restaurants besides Chef John’s Fish & Chips. By the end of the year, San Diego hopes to have at least four locations for this brand-new concept.
