A brand new wine shop, created by the former wine director of a three-Michelin-star San Diego restaurant, is preparing to debut in University Heights.
Victoria O’Bryan is no stranger to wines, having served as the former wine director at Addison for seven years. Now, she’s ready to open her own wine shop and tasting lounge called Electric Wines on the edge of Hillcrest and University Heights at 4241 Park Boulevard. O’Bryan tells What Now San Diego that the new wine shop will open in Spring 2025, offering a thoughtfully curated selection of wines spanning international regions. The Addison alum promises everything from the classics to the more esoteric.
“Our focus will be on quality wines at approachable price points while providing expertise at the ready for anyone who wants to deep dive,” O’Bryan tells What Now San Diego. “Our mission is to be a true neighborhood wine shop where locals can explore and engage with our program as deeply as they’d like, which is why there will also be various social components, such as tasting events and educational seminars.”
This is a massive achievement for O’Bryan, who previously worked at Addison before leaving the wine director position in August 2021. Besides this impressive experience, O’Bryan is also an Advanced Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers and is actively pursuing the Master Sommelier pin, hoping to take the test this year. Until then, she will continue to grow her knowledge through owning Electric Wines, which will start small with about 200 different wines before eventually expanding to more wines, a limited food menu, and educational opportunities.
