Gelato 101 is planning to add a new location along the Coast Highway. According to a new permit filing with the city, the new gelateria will land just South of their Encinitas outpost in Solana Beach. You’ll find the new spot next door to Pizza Port Solana Beach and across from the railway station.
Established in 2019, Gelato 101 partners with Bottega Italiana premium Gelato. Bottega Italiana was founded in Seattle by Luca Guerrieri, Antonella Ragazzi, and David Arato and their creations can be found in a variety of shops along the West Coast.
Utilizing Italian techniques, the brand has created signature flavors like Black Vanilla, Biscottino, and seasonal fruits like Mango, and Strawberry Basil.
Arato tells What Now San Diego, “Each space has their own chef, we have recipes for 100 different flavors, and the chef has the freedom to make daily specials. We serve 20 flavors daily and they’re always different.”
Gelato 101 in Encinitas serves up gelato by the scoop or by the pint, plus a variety of acai bowls, coffee, boba drinks, and blended beverages like their fruit smoothies with their Tart Yogurt gelato as a base. Arato tells us they’ll be working in a smaller spot in Solana Beach so they’ll focus on gelato, coffees, and bubble teas.
Arato says the new Gelato 101 is preparing for an extensive remodel and projects their opening for Summer 2022. What Now San Diego will update as more information becomes available. Follow Gelato 101 on Facebook for updates.
