Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream continues to expand its footprint in Central San Diego, securing its latest location in La Jolla. The ice cream chain is set to join The Shops at La Jolla Village shopping center next.

The ice cream shop has seen quick growth throughout the San Diego market with locations popping up in Carlsbad, Vista, Chula Vista, and National City.

The tradition began in Youngstown, Ohio in 1945 and now the company operates 111 shops in 11 states. Even in franchising, the business keeps true to its historic, family-made brand by inviting each franchisee back to Youngstown to learn its secret proprietary recipes.

Handel’s is known for its exclusive ice cream flavors that are made in-house like Monkey Business, Spouse Like a House, and Blue Monster, to name a few. Current seasonal flavors include Watermelon Ice, Key Lime Pie, and Graham Central Station.

Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream is currently listed as COMING SOON on The Shops’ website. An opening date is pending. For now, visit the newest Handel’s location at The Hub in Hillcrest and learn more at their website.
